The discovery of Billy Mayerl's music was a joy for me, performing his pieces for piano four hands regularly, and then exploring his scintillating piano solos and orchestral music. It was fellow composer James Erber who made me aware of Mayerl's "School of Modern Syncopation" which inspired this anniversary tribute in 2002.
