Programme note
Until Sally Rose asked me for a piano piece, I had generally avoided composing for my own instrument, but I decided then that I might embark on a set of piano preludes. I started working on them during a weekend stay in West Harting in July 1993 and finished the first one in March the following year when I was living in Brighton. It takes its cue from Debussy's "… Le vent dans la plaine".
