Programme note
Spleen et Idéal, the opening section of Baudelaire's Les Fleurs du Mal, with its dualistic struggle between ennui, profound melancholy and mortal despair (Spleen) and the pursuit of beauty, art and escape from mundane reality (Idéal) inspired this solo for a beautiful young dancer, accompanied by Crowley's delivery of the poem, and fragments of late piano pieces by Scriabin. I subsequently assembled these fragments into a short piano piece.
