Une Sonnerie pour G. D. is a peal of bells, two chords on the bass notes G and D, which are rhythmically and harmonically varied over the course of this memorial piece. Another bell piece stands as a model in the background, Sonnerie de Sainte-Geneviève du Mont de Paris, "The Bells of St. Genevieve”, by Marin Marais (on a three-note bass).
