Programme note
Lusikisiki is a remote town in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, its onomatopoeic name derived from the rustling sound of reeds in the wind. It is home to the brilliant young composer of choral music, Lihle Biata. The piece is made up of permutations of a limited number of two chords, which perhaps simulates the rustling of reeds in an abstract way, and there is a brief call-and-response passage midway.
