Programme note
Distant Cowbells was inspired by walks in the hills around the town of Morija, in the Kingdom of Lesotho. At times the cowbells are quite cacophonous, and I represented this by the right hand semitone clusters which are also rhythmically fairly free. The left hand uses the first five notes of the minor scale, patterned in a four-note figure each time it appears.
